The Moment
What Happened
Outkast was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as part of the 2025 class.
Why It Matters
The rap duo became Atlanta legends, drawing attention toward the South and away from the East and West Coast. Their album Speakerboxxx/The Love Below became the second and last rap / hip hop album to win a Grammy for “Album of the Year” back in 2004.
Opportunity
Celebrate Outkast’s achievements and discography with a 15-year Ubisoft/Just Dance reunion.
Explaining the Obsession
Growing up with “Hey Ya” in Just Dance 2, Outkast and Ubisoft felt like an obvious duo. A nostalgic special-edition release that could extend to a multi-party deal with Nintendo and even music platforms.
I wanted to make sure personal interest could extend to shared passion, and I was offered the chance to use Luma AI to assist with visuals. And what was originally a test of image and video generation became a test of my research and knowledge of culture.
I looked at:
Outkast’s Atlanta roots, influence, and legacy
Outkast’s discography and Stankonia’s 25th anniversary release
Outkast’s, and particularly Andre 3000’s, boundary-pushing fashion taste
Just Dance’s background and character evolution between 2009 and 2026
The Switch, Switch 2, and Nintendo’s packaging
Atlanta’s entertainment scene
I was reminded of how Just Dance introduced some of Gen Z to Outkast. But fighting Luma AI for semi-accurate generations made me confirm my knowledge of Outkast’s legacy. And how Just Dance can introduce the group to another generation as Gen Alpha approaches the age of Gen Z at the time of Just Dance 2’s release.
Just Dance: Outkast Edition
Ubisoft releases a special-edition Just Dance game featuring backgrounds and characters inspired by Outkast, Stankonia, and the popular and fairly family-friendly “Ms. Jackson.”
A secondary partnership with Nintendo offers Switch Joy Cons as a collectible. An invitation for new Outkast fans to play Just Dance with designs inspired by Stankonia’s 25th anniversary edition.
More complicated multi-party deals can Just Dance even further into the music and broader entertainment scene. Game purchase can provide exclusive access to artist content on music platforms or tickets to live events in Atlanta, Outkast’s birthplace and “Black Hollywood.”
